Adrienne O'Neill

What drives me to create is the need to express and share a thought-provoking and life-impacting message through my paintings, prose or poetry. I confess that my process for creating is not an enjoyable one, but quite a battle until my brush touches the canvas.

Creative Purpose

My creative purpose is to inspire others by sharing messages of hope, truth, and love.

These messages express my life’s adventures, lived and foreseen, and carry the breath of my hurts, hopes, struggles, and faith.

ART ELEMENTS

Colors best personify my eclectic way of thinking, approaching life and creating. I believe it’s a symphony of colors that show the beauty of how God made us.

The main elements you’ll notice in my paintings are vivid colors and texture created with mostly oil on canvas, while at times mixed media is present. These staples define my artist’s style and they are used intrinsically to bring life to the meaning I hope to portray through my artwork.

Inspiration

I’m inspired by colors, nature, and helping people.

Colors in harmony and dramatized draw my attention and make me excited. They cause me to want to create and give me a sense of life.

Nature makes me feel alive! It’s my healing balm. It has the power to give me renewed energy and to give me peace. I personify elements of nature within my works.

Helping people drives all that I do. My work is purposed with sharing messages that I hope encourages people along a path that is filled with love and freedom.

Artist's Journey

My use of vibrant colors truly reflects how I was brought up, culturally hybrid. I am Puerto Rican, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY but my family and I moved to Puerto Rico when I was thirteen years old. Growing up in New York as a Nyorican and then being raised from my adolescence to adulthood in Puerto Rico made me acculturated in these two equally strong, striking and distinguished places. The immersion into my Puerto Rican cultural heritage gave me the true “sabor” of my island and my people. It expanded my view and my love for art and nature grew stronger, heavily impacting my creations today.

A Walk Unto

As a young girl, I was always drawn to nature and the arts, both performing and visual. Growing up, I always found much joy in nature, whether it was in the pine trees and grassy hills from camping or the ocean breeze and crystalline turquoise waters of the island beaches or the scent of rain mixed with earthy greens of El Yunque.

I loved it all as well as ways that art captured creativity in so many ways. I was drawn to art and valued it as early as primary school. I continued to nurture my creativity taking up art minors in college at Niagara University and the University of Puerto Rico.

T

Although later on I became a Middle School ESl teacher for over 5 years and then a Coach within Education for 10 years, my passion for arts and nature continued to burn within me and it all came full circle in 2019.

Today, I have my own business as a Life & Leadership Coach, helping women to discover and live out their purpose, and I paint and write to encourage the journey ahead.

Nature is my healing balm.

Light of the World

I’ve had the honor of exhibiting my landscape paintings in Puerto Rico and having a solo exhibition in 2017 in New York, showcasing my painting collection, Oaks of Righteousness. In 2018, I had the privilege of uniting with a wonderful group of artists to bring forth the message in the “Refined” Collection, where I displayed my paintings and poetry.

We grow up and our child-like faith is tested under waters of disappointments, pain, and long-suffering. Until we understand and believe that we are not intended to drown under these waves, but ride them.
